The group all arrived safe & sound this morning in Cusco, all smiles despite the long, 3 flight, journey.
A short drive took us to our hotel, the Hotel Unaytambo, located on a narrow Inca street in the center of Cusco. Some rooms & the lobby even feature original Inca walls.
Everyone enjoyed breakfast whilst check-in was taking place, & then had some free time to freshen up & settle in.
Cusco's Plaza de Armas, with the Jesuit Church behind.
Also in the square in the Cathedral, one of the sights visited on our city tour.
An unidenitified Incan emperor (it's long story...)
Cusco is renowned in Peru as the home of the country’s best pizza, so we had some great pizza for lunch.
This afternoon we began our sightseeing with a walking tour of the city, including the Spanish-built Cathedral & Korikancha, site of the Incan Temple of the Sun & later constructed over by the Spanish to become the Convent of Santa Domingo. The Inca remains include some of the best preserved examples of their incredible stonework.
Perfectly built & preserved Inca walls.
Shopping for crafts.
We ended the day with dinner this evening in a nice local restaurant, offering traditional Peruvian dishes. By the time we returned to our hotel everyone was well & truly ready for bed after a long day & a great start to our tour.
